Pilgrim Scufflings

More from the archive pool...

Sometimes I read the things I wrote 2 1/2 years ago and think that nothing has changed. It has though. He is changing us from glory to glory, working in us both to will and do of His good pleasure.

Anyhow, here's that post from waaaaaay back:

Greetings from another pilgrim as we travel “home”. The road sure seems long and rough at times doesn’t it! I’ve been scuffling a bit lately, discouraged with the happenings of the daily grind. Why are things so difficult? Why do the heavens feel like brass so often? I know that God is there. He hasn’t moved. He still beckons us to “come unto Him” and we will find rest for our souls. Recently I read a quote that goes something like this: “God will write over our days, ‘Will explain later’.” Is that enough encouragement to continue on? It has helped me!

Whether the issues are financial, emotional, relational, physical, spiritual (or whatever they might be), our Father knows all about them. Although we are often paralysed by these “things” that make the journey “home” so discouraging at times, the touch of God upon our lives and the comfort of His everlasting arms can nudge us closer to the finish line.

Dear friend, as we continue along towards “home”, may it be a comfort to know that we are walking together. We WILL make it! God has not turned His face away from us and our predicament. He is still there, cheering us on, even though the “stuff” we’re dealing with almost deafens us to His tender, gentle voice. One of my favorite hymn writers, William Cowper, was plagued with depression for much of his life, even though he enjoyed a closeness with his God. Recently I bought a biography of him and have been encouraged to know that others who have gone before have fought similar battles.

Read some of his lyrics:

“Amidst the roaring of the sea,
My soul still hangs her hope on Thee;
Thy constant love, Thy Faithful care,
Is all that saves me from despair.”

And again, he writes:

“Ye weary saints, fresh courage take,
The clouds ye so much dread;
Are big with mercies and shall break
With blessings on thy head.”

And finally:

“The dearest idol I have known,
Whate’er that idol be,
Help me to tear it from Thy Throne.
And worship only thee.”

And so, we fix our eyes on Him although at times our view is dimmed by tears. He beckons us from the grandstand of heaven. Our family and friends who’ve gone on before cheer us on. Let’s take each other’s hand and walk together. You are loved by Him and by this fellow pilgrim!

Journey on...

  1. Yes - some of that post from years ago sounds just like some recent words from U pilgrim ! "The more things change, the more they stay the same" :-) But, like that picture shows --- It's all about CHRIST --- peter looking Unto HIM, WHO IS ABLE TO SAVE --- peter was not thinking about his good works -the fact he was "one of the gang" -or that he was a "leader" of sorts - just LOOKING UNTO HIM -- what he started out on "faith" stepping onto the water, we need to do and "continue" for HE IS FAITHFUL -- water of life itself, finances,sickness, troubles all around - yes, brother David - that picture says it all -

  2. I think this is exactly what I needed to read right now: Thank you for posting it. This week has been so hard, I am feeling so weak as though I'm ill, and I hate it. Of course I am not well at all, but life goes on, and so must I. So today one of the most dreaded symptoms I've had showed up forthe zillionth time, and now I really feel down. Plus the doctors I've been to have just about given up on me: I haven't heard from either of them in a month. My doctor didn't even call me about the blood work 2 months ago, but the receptionist called and said it was okay. Funny thing is, it doesn't take a doctor to tell me that all those numbers were either low or below range! I have one last hope that I've read of that I'll try, and then I'll have tried it all. I pray that this last effort will be the cure, because being unwell for 10 months seems unbearable.

    Hope I didn't ramble on there. Thanks for listening, er, reading.

    Love and Prayers,
    Rose

  3. I am new in here psalm 37 - but your post is read by us here and by God , as U already said , David's post and that great picture of YOUR LORD reaching for U, yes , U -- HE KNOWS all of your situation and is allowing it , to bring U and all of us to that place where HE can be ALL IN ALL TO US , (easy for me to say, I am not going thru it) but what else can I say but to repeat HIS WORD, HE LOVES U more than anything else - HE PROMISED TO HELP AND BE WITH U and we will pray that HE BLESSES U with health and wellbeing, try and hold on -- others will see your post and pray for U ---- "HIS WORD SAYS , a smoking flax HE won't put out -- a struggling hurting child of HIS , HE WON'T FORGET U ---

  4. For U , psalm 37 -- just sharing some verses that U know all too well , I am sure ----- Eph. 1:19, sure, I know U have prayed that, believed that , cried that but LOOK AGAIN --- HE IS A GOD that can be TRUSTED , Christ is the proof of what HE wants to do - all for us HE CAME , your requests are ALL DO-ABLE by OUR MIGHTY GOD "to us-ward" who believe according to HIS MIGHTY POWER -- is HE a god that is weak ? too far away to help ? - NO , A THOUSAND TIMES NO -- Take Heart psalm 37
