Do Not Disturb

Recently I heard from Mark Price, son of my mentor Keith Price, who went home to glory several years ago. I was reminded of this special occasion in Victoria, BC and went looking in my archives for the story

Here it is:

Several years ago I had the privilege and honor of spending a couple of hours with my mentor, Keith Price. Keith was in hospital in Victoria, BC and was not expected to get better. He went to be with the Lord shortly after my visit.

I flew out on a Saturday morning, was picked up by Keith and Rosemary's son Mark and taken to their home for lunch. After lunch Mark drove me to the hospital for my planned visit with his dad. When I arrived at Keith's room, the door was closed but this sign was taped to the door.

The nurse told me that Keith was waiting for me and I was ushered to his bedside and the door was closed again. Keith positioned me so that he could see me without strain and he held my hand for almost two hours. He told me that in past years he had helped me to understand how to live but now he was passing along his counsel on how to die.

Those moments were priceless. I'll never forget them and I'll always keep this handwritten sign as a reminder of those moments with my friend.

As I was reminded of that special day I thought of Abba, our Father. He longs to spend uninterrupted time with us, His redeemed friends. But we rush in, quickly offer the obligatory prayers and speed off to our various and sundry "important" engagements. Why can't we quiet our hearts in His presence and just enjoy him?

Allow Him to take our hand and speak truth, grace and love to our troubled souls. "Father, teach me just how deep and vast your love is for me. Thank you for desiring my fellowship. Forgive me for hastily rushing off so quickly. AMEN!"

P. S. At a baptismal service at our church, one young man spoke of how God had gripped his heart. He and another friend had made themselves accountable to each other. The deal? NO BIBLE, NO BREAKFAST! How about us? Is filling our stomachs more important than feeding on His truth? Something to think about!

  2. Amen! to No Bible, No Breakfast! I tried so hard in my younger years to read the Bible every single day for a whole year, and it was such a challenge. I think I finally did do it when I was 16, and from them on I believe I might have missed a few days, but not many. I used to listen to the radio every morning for my news/weather/sports, and then get up for the day and read my Bible. When we were traveling on vacation (we always travelled by van) I would tune in first thing, rather than read my Bible. Noticing this trend I finally made myself a deal that I would never listen to the radio before reading my Bible, and that I would never read anthu=ing else before my Bible (which includes newspapers and computer). I keep a NT/Psalms next to my bed so that if I'm sick I'll still read it...other than that, I get up every morning extra-early in order to read my Bible and pray in the solace of my dad's "office" room in our basement. My mom (who gets up VERY VERY early) has been encouraging a busy mother she knows to read her Bible and pray every morning, because she'll go days on end without reading it. It was the first time I'd heard of a Christian not spending time with God on a daily basis, and my mom keeps telling her, "How can you have a relationship with God, if you only talk to Him maybe 15 minutes a day? Could you have a good relationship with your husband if you did that? How would anything be ironed out?"

I encourage all you Pilgrim Pals to spend time in God's Word and in His presence each and every day. As it says in the Psalms, "early in the morning will I seek you."

Have a blessed day in the Lord, all you Pilgrim Pals!

    From,
    the lil Pilgrim pal

  4. Well, yes Terry, you blog quite a bit and quite a lot.
But Bible reading is for you (us) but you've got to hit the road with it too!
Your blog is one of your witnesses to the world about
God's love and desires for his people and you are spreading the word and The Word pretty good.

I'm sorry David, but I felt had to give a rebuttal here for all to read. Her blog is a beacon of God's light almost every time she rights.

Terry mentioned to me that today is your nephew, Mike Fisher's birthday.
    So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE.
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE.

  5. And David, that 'No Bible, No Breakfast' is a good training idea.
We could use it other times during the day for Bible reading and praying also.
But there is nothing like starting the day with God.

    Thanks for showing your plan.

I'd problably do "No Breakfast Without the Bible" as I'm retired and Bible study with breakfast is much more fulfilling and educational than breakfast and coffee with the newspaper (or TV).
