Falling Apart

HELP! Where can I get this old body overhauled or at least get the oil changed and the big tire removed. Know any good body shops?

In recent e-mails and Pilgrim Scribblings posts I've dropped some vague hints concerning various ailments, aches and pains. I've been to so many specialists that I can't remember what's wrong with me.

For starters, I had cellulitis twice in the last 18 months. Both times it was in my facial area. The first time I was hospitalized. Last fall when it hit again I carried my intravenous in a pouch on my waist and the homecare nurse came every day to change the medication.

For two years I was on an anti-depressant to help with my panic attacks and anxiety. During that time I developed sleep apnea and had to get a C-PAP machine. Three months ago my doctor began weaning me off my medication and the sleep apnea has all but disappeared.

I've also developed osteoarthritis is my right knee and my left foot. About 10 days ago I developed severe pain in my hip. At first we thought it was my sciatic nerve flaring up but today it was determined that I have bursitis in my hip.

I'm awaiting an MRI to determine the cause of a significant hearing loss in my left ear. While I was in England I developed a "floater" in my left eye which continues to float around and bother me.

Other than that I've been doing well. I don't think I've had any memory loss incidents recently (to the best of my memory) but there are likely some things which I've forgotten to mention.

Oh yes, I did have an MRI on my brain recently. They discovered that I have one...at least.

So, dear friends, thanks for your prayers. I wish there were some "thinking" exercises that would help me lose weight. I can't walk, run, jog or do much of anything but I sure think a lot.

Sorry to bore you but you asked...

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)

  1. Dave, I've had some great experience with Weight Watchers. 30+ lbs down so far, and I still have 20 or so to go. I'm feeling a LOT better, and can't wait to get down to my target, hopefully later this summer.

I started a blog called FatBloggers.net for guys to get together to encourage each other this way. We could always use some more contributors, if that's something you'd be interested in. Check us out and let me know what you think. Not trying to spam, just want you to know about us if you're trying to lose some weight.

  2. Hi Dave,
My name is Emily Wierenga; I'm the former editor for "Living Light News" (www.livinglightnews.org), and am currently freelancing for Christian publications across Canada. "Faith Today" magazine has asked me to do a profile on Mike Fisher; I'm wondering if you have any contact information for him? If so, could you email it to me? My email address is wierenga.emily@gmail.com. Thank you, and God bless your ministry!

    Sincerely,
    Emily Wierenga.

  3. Dear Mr. Fisher,
    Wow, what can I say?...
I thought of you this morning when I was praying and reading some scriptures to myself on healing, and when I read your blog, I thought that must have been the Lord speaking to me about you. I have had an illness for 9 months, although you wouldn't know by looking at me because it's internal. Nevertheless, it's there and wasting me away in unkown ways. But it is nothing in comparison to what you are going through! I was reading a book called, "Patient, Heal Thyself" (written by a Christian and based on Biblical principles) while waiting for the doctor to return my phone call this morning. It certainly is a very interesting read! As far as that bursitis, I don't know if you take natural stuff, but I had tendonitis in my elbow, and took care of it by icing the spot (until it turns red, then off for 20 minutes), and taking Tumeric/Bromelain capsules x2 daily, and MSM 1000mg x1 daily. I know bursitis is more severe than tendonitis, but I got over it in no time, without taking any meds!
I don't think anyone who reads that post will be bored by it, because your readers are probably concerned about you, as I have been lately!

May the Lord's joy be your strength.

    Praying for you,
    Hebrews 11:1

  4. Oh David! I'm sorry to hear you are going through these things... and well, since you asked for advice, all I can think of is to send you over to Dr. Don Colbert's website:

    http://www.drcolbert.com/

He's a Christian doctor and is very much into natural remedies as well as an overall holistic approach (and using certain med's, too). I appreciate his common sense approach and his great knowlege of nutrition as well as the importance of avoiding bad kinds of stress, etc... Take care and I do hope you'll be feeling better soon! Blessings, Debra

  5. Rick's approach is one that I've been using as well Dave. I've dropped nearly 60 pounds without exercising at all.

A verse I keep repeating to myself is Romans 8:18 - "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."

My prayers are lifted up for you in your health battles.

  6. Just stopping by to say hello and let you know I'll be praying for you. Sounds like a lot to go through in just a short while. I so relate to the frustration of it all...hubby's been through one ordeal after another, healthwise. We could use a few prayers, btw.
    Thanks a bunch!!
