Shadows of the Evening

"Now the day is over
Night is drawing nigh;
Shadows of the evening

Steal across the sky."

This is the first verse of one of the hymns that was sung as the Titanic sank to the bottom of the Atlantic on that fateful night.

Sabine Baring-Gould (1825-1878) wrote the lyrics, in 1865, and the tune “Merrial” was composed by Sir Joseph Barnby (1838-1896) in 1868.

I took this photo in the front yard of mom's house tonight. This is where I spent most of my happy childhood. Thanks, mom, for 61 years of happy memories.
